Pentalog has an exciting job opening for one of the largest online car dealerships in the UK, who want to revolutionize the car buying process. You'll be working with an existing team as a Platform Engineer, responsible for providing a shared set of services to reduce cognitive load and undifferentiated heavy lifting in the product teams.

Specifically, you'll be:

  • Assisting/ templating the deployment of serverless, event-driven AWS services;
  • Managing AWS security standards and organisation-wide features;
  • Providing tooling and global standards on GitHub;
  • Hosting and managing a range of observability services that are utilised by the teams;
  • Have a positive approach to learning.
     

 

Job requirements

  • Experience in building and supporting AWS infrastructure, especially serverless services;
  • Platform and/ or DevOps experience (tooling, automation, IaC, CI/CD);
  • Previous experience of Terraform or any similar IaC tool;
  • Some coding experience (ideally TypeScript running on NodeJS, but any modern language stack is fine);
  • Affinity for solving complex problems and collaborative development;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
     

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for observability tools (Datadog, Honeycomb, Sentry);
  • Guide teams through migration to Datadog from other tools;
  • Develop and maintain common packages for logging and monitoring;
  • Manage the infrastructure used to send data from AWS to SaaS tools (CloudWatch logs, Kinesis Firehose, etc);
  • Provide expertise on AWS cloud services to product development teams;
  • Guide teams to optimise their software delivery and CI/CD using GitHub actions;
  • Guide teams to bring their infrastructure in line with client's standards;
  • Provide opinions and expertise on AWS cloud services for product development teams;
  • Participate in production incident response (during working hours);
  • Identify and implement cost saving opportunities across various vendors (AWS, Cloudinary, Datadog, Split.IO, etc.).
